Changes in the body are
due to an increased amount of estrogen but the good news
is that yeast infections do not increase the risk of
having any other problems such as low birth weight,
pre-term labor, or birth defects. The symptoms of a
yeast infection are the same, pregnant or not. Itching,
burning, painful urination, pain during intercourse and
a vaginal discharge are just a few.
Treatment is made easy with vaginal suppositories. There
are even some brands available in a one dose treatment
and are available over the counter. If you are concerned
that a yeast infection is possible during pregnancy, you
should discuss all the options with your doctor now so
that if something does arise during your pregnancy, you
will be educated and well prepared to self-treat if you
need to. All of the over the counter medicines as well
as the oral prescriptions sometimes needed are said to
be safe for you and your baby and have no side effects.
